HERMANUS / OVERSTRAND

01. What is Perks Passport?

Perks Passport is a local discovery and voucher platform. Participating businesses can be visible to visitors and local subscribers, publish a Digital Flyer, and choose whether to offer a subscriber voucher.

The business controls the offer — including the value, quantity, valid days and, where relevant, valid hours.

02. Digital Flyers — visibility even without a voucher

The Digital Flyers section gives participating businesses a simple promotional presence inside Perks Passport. A flyer showcases what the business offers and links visitors back to its business listing.

Broad local discoveryRestaurants, activities, accommodation, shopping, wine, wellness, art & culture and services can participate.
A voucher is optionalA business can still gain exposure through its Digital Flyer even if it does not want to run a voucher immediately.
Perks highlightedWhere a business has a live Perks Passport offer, the flyer can highlight that a subscriber perk is available.
Part of the visitor journeyThe flyer becomes part of discovery rather than simply being a once-off advertisement.

03. Businesses choose the voucher that suits them

Perks Passport is designed so the business stays in control. Offers can be structured in several ways:

Percentage DiscountFixed Value Discount Minimum SpendUnlimited Quantity Limited QuantityValid DaysValid Hours

Percentage: e.g. 20% OFF. Fixed Value: e.g. R40 OFF or R100 OFF. Minimum spend is optional. Quantity, days and time windows can be used to control when and how an offer operates.

LIMITED QUANTITY SPECIALS CAN BE COMBINED WITH VALID DAYS + VALID HOURS.

For Limited Quantity offers, each redemption represents one special for one subscriber. If several people want the special, each person needs their own Perks Passport subscription and must claim their own voucher.

04. Controlled claiming and redemption

Subscribers claim offers into their Perks Passport wallet. The platform manages the redemption journey and creates an audit trail. A subscriber is limited to one voucher per business per billing period, helping prevent repeated use of the same business offer.

Limited Quantity vouchers use a staged reservation. When redemption starts, a promotional unit is held for up to 6 hours. If the subscriber does not complete the redemption within that window, the promotional quantity can return to availability.

Successful redemptions are recorded with a unique Perks Passport reference and reporting data, giving the business measurable redemption activity rather than relying only on a paper coupon.

05. Three redemption methods

Perks Passport CodeFor businesses without a POS or booking-code integration. PP generates a unique redemption code, with one-time QR verification available for staff.
POS Barcode / Voucher Code PoolFor businesses whose till/POS recognises voucher numbers or barcodes. PP reserves a unique code for the subscriber and the final voucher displays the code/barcode for use at the till.
Online Booking / PaymentFor accommodation, activities and other online bookings. PP can reserve a unique booking/promo code and send the subscriber into the business's normal online booking journey.
Independent controlsVoucher Code Pool and Limited Quantity are separate. The business controls the promotional quantity independently of the number of codes uploaded.

06. Online vouchers can fit existing checkout systems

Where a business's online checkout accepts unique promo or voucher codes, Perks Passport can act as the distribution layer: the business generates the codes, PP reserves one for the subscriber, and the customer enters it during the normal booking or checkout process.

The booking platform calculates the discount and the business's existing payment provider processes the resulting payment. Where future APIs, webhooks or payment confirmations are available, Perks Passport can potentially streamline confirmation further.

07. Affiliate system — businesses can also earn

A participating accommodation establishment, restaurant, activity, travel partner or other approved promoter can be given its own trackable affiliate QR/link.

A visitor scans that unique Perks Passport QR. If the visitor purchases a qualifying Perks Passport subscription/Area Pass through the referral journey, the referral can be attributed to that partner, creating the potential for an agreed affiliate commission.

QR distribution can be built into room-key tags, reception stands, table talkers, visitor information material and travel-partner communications.

A BUSINESS CAN BENEFIT TWICE:
ATTRACT PP CUSTOMERS + REFER NEW PP SUBSCRIBERS.

08. GiveData — a separate social-impact platform

GiveData is a separate initiative designed to help visitors leaving South Africa pass unused South African mobile data directly to screened/verified good causes rather than allowing that data to go unused.

Perks Passport and GiveData remain separate platforms, while hotels, tourism businesses, travel partners and future airline/eSIM partners could help distribute both ideas at different stages of the visitor journey.

11. The objective

Perks Passport is not about asking businesses to discount everything. It is about giving each business a flexible tool to create an offer that makes commercial sense — while giving visitors and local subscribers enough genuine value to make the Passport compelling.

12. NEW CONCEPT: Product-Included Passports & “Hear My Plea”

Three routes to subscriber access: direct R100 subscriptions; a proposed Hermanus whale T-shirt for visitors; and a proposed Pro-bites fitness product offer for locals. Product purchasers would receive an included 30-day Perks Passport, with no automatic renewal. All access uses an individual subscriber account and the same voucher rules.

Tourists | Hear My Plea whale T-shirtA distinctive Hermanus souvenir featuring a whale and the message “Hear My Plea.” A public scan experience could play an appropriately licensed whale recording and introduce the conservation story and Perks Passport.
Private peel-to-reveal activationA tamper-evident sticker on the garment label would conceal a unique, single-use Passport activation code. The public whale experience and private subscriber entitlement remain separate.
Locals | Pro-bitesA proposed box of ten Pro-bites at R500 would include a complimentary 30-day Passport, introducing gym customers to useful local offers.
Retail distribution intelligenceEach code can be linked to a product, size, colour, batch and retailer. Activations provide useful sales signals and prompt stock checks; they do not by themselves prove the date of sale or exact remaining stock.

Hear My Plea: a conservation connection

The proposed whale story could invite visitors to pass on unused eligible South African mobile data through the separate GiveData initiative to a participating whale-conservation NPO, potentially “Save The Whale.” Any recipient partnership, network transfer capability and permitted conservation claims must be confirmed before launch.

Why this matters for businesses: useful products and memorable souvenirs can introduce new subscribers to the same free-to-list business network. More engaged subscribers could mean more discovery of relevant offers and measurable redemptions.

Development status: The T-shirt, product activation codes, retailer stock tracking and GiveData whale partnership are proposed pilot features, not live services. Product-funded Passport economics depend on actual costs, retailer margins and activation arrangements.
